Inspections

We conduct the following types of inspections in Brandon Township:

Driveway Ordinance

The inspections are conducted under the authority of the Brandon Township Zoning Ordinance. We conduct an inspection just prior to the rough building inspection by the Building Department and a final inspection prior to occupancy.

Some of the basic issues are:

1.       the driveway must be 12 feet minimum at the base of the drive

2.       the overall clearance must be 14 feet minimum ( this would be the distance between trees)

3.       the minimum height clearance must be 14 feet

4.       at the final it must have a surface sufficient to hold the large fire apparatus

5.       the driveway can only service one parcel

6.       the driveway must be 30 feet from any existing driveway

Addressing Ordinance

The inspections are conducted under the authority of the Brandon Township Zoning Ordinance. We conduct an inspection just prior to the rough building inspection by the Building Department.

 Some of the basic issues are:

1.       the numbers must be legible from the roadway, at the driveway, day or night.

2.       at the rough inspection it can be a temporary sign

3.       at the final it must be a permanent sign

4.       no further inspections will be conducted without a address being posted

Wood Burning Fireplace 

The inspections are conducted under the authority of the Mechanical Inspector, and NFPA 211 (can be reviewed at Brandon Fire Department Station #1 53 South St). Permits are issued by the Brandon Township Building Department.

Some of the basic issues at the rough inspection are:

1.       clearances to combustibles of the stove and chimney

2.       type of protection of the walls and floors

3.       height of the chimney

4.       insure UL labeled stove and chimney

5.       hearth size

Plan Review

Plan reviews are conducted of private roads and new commercial construction. 

Commercial Use Change and Occupancy

These inspections are conducted under the authority of the Fire Prevention Ordinance and the International Fire Code.  They require plan review and site approval.

Annual Inspections

Commercial buildings are to have an annual inspection, along with a site survey to collect information in the event of an emergency and to indicate any hazards pertinent to firefighting.
