Current News from the Clerk's Office

MEET THE CLERK’S STAFF:

Karen L. McArthur - Although Karen has officially retired she still acts as Jeannie's Deputy Clerk  and as our Elections Coordinator.  She will help out on a part time basis. She will maintain and update our voter files and help with major elections. We are very lucky she has agreed to continue assisting with elections. There is no one more informed about the election process.  If you have any questions concerning elections, she will be happy to help you.  Karen loves being part of the community we live in and wants to help everyone however she can.

Susan Chesnutt - Bookkeeper.  Sue has been the Brandon Township Bookkeeper for over 10 years.  Sue processes all invoices for payment, handles inputting of cash receipts taken in by the Treasurer’s office, budgets, keeps files for Seymour Lake Cemetery updated and does the monthly bank balancing for 25 plus accounts.  You may also see Sue processing a passport application or two.  If you need a report printed regarding any of the funds maintained by the township or of the cemeteries, Sue is the person to contact and she looks forward to assisting you.

Diana L. Bertapelle - Administrative Assistant.  Diana is a Brandon Township Resident for over 10 years.  She has been with the Clerk's office since August of 2009 having come from the Village of Ortonville where she served as a General Clerk for almost two years.  Diana also has experience as an election inspector.  Diana handles all Administrative functions for the Clerk's office such as preparing the board packets, publishing legal and meeting notifications, filing, answering phones and directing callers to the proper departments are just a few of her responsibilities. She also is acting Recording Secretary for the Brandon Township Board, the Brandon Township Planning Commission and the Brandon Township Zoning Board of Appeals.  She enjoys working with the public and greets residents at the window with a smile. If you hear laughter, you know you are in the right spot!

Solicitor Information

Please be aware that under the U.S. Constitution, the Township cannot prohibit door-to-door solicitation but we can and do attempt to regulate such activity.  The Township’s solicitation Ordinance, previously upheld by federal court, requires a permit from the Township Clerk (which the solicitor must carry) and restricts solicitation hours from any day.  Homeowners not wanting solicitors may post a sticker or notice on their door, “Private Property – NO SOLICITORS.”  Stickers are available at most hardware stores.

You may have your phone number listed on the national “Do Not Call” registry that will render the line off-limits to telemarketers.  Simply call 888.382.1222 or register on line.  Violators face fines up to $11,000.00.
